From the pen of Pastor Morris ... Madagascar Calls

I want to share with you an exciting mission project in South Madagascar.  Steve Lellelid has completed translating the Bible into the language of the Tandroy tribe, and now seeks to get it printed.  We need help in raising funds for the printing, shipping and distribution.

Let me share some background information.  Steve grew up in Madagascar, the son of missionary parents.  His father is buried at the Missionary Cemetery at Fort Dauphin, Madagascar, where several other missionaries and their children are laid to rest.  The sacrifice of these lives has not been in vain.  Today the Malagasy Lutheran Church is a large vibrant, flourishing  and fast-growing indigenous church.

Steve has a love for the people of this land.  It is the deep desire of his heart to bring the Good News of salvation and new life through Jesus to those who live in darkness so they may enter into the light.  The 1.5 million people in the Tandroy tribe do not have the Scriptures in their own language. Most do not know the national language in which religious material is written.  Steve and his team have undertaken the arduous task of translating the Bible in their native tongue.

Steve has sought bids for printing the Bible and a Tandroy Hymnal.  No printing company in Madagascar has the capability to do such a large project.  He has been in communication with a printer in China that submitted a bid of $72,000 for printing 15,000 Bibles and 5,000 hymnals plus a container and shipping .

Steve serves under Renewal InternationalIn addition to Steve we  provide support for three Bible schools (at Manasoa, Manantantely and Betroka), and for the new Andriry-Betroka Synod of the Malagasy Lutheran Church.   Two years ago my brother Carl, my son Tim and I along with Steve attended the dedication of the synod.  The synod president and committee asked us to be partners with them, which we joyfully accepted.

I invite you to join us in asking the Lord to provide the funds needed for the ongoing ministries and for the Tandroy Bible Project.  Our policy is to trust the Lord for the needed support.  We do not make appeals for funds.  We leave it to the Lord to prompt those He chooses to give.  He has been faithful in meeting the needs the past dozen years since the ministry started, and for this we give thanks.

If the Lord moves you to participate, you may send your contribution to Renewal International, 3540 Harriet Avenue, Shoreview, MN  55126.  You will receive a tax-deductible receipt.  Lutheran Renewal is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt incorporation.
